How does Venoxia differ from SpO2 reported by wearables?

Some wearables estimate arterial oxygen saturation (SpO2) using pulse oximetry.  SpO₂ indicates how saturated your arterial blood is with oxygen—essentially, how “full” it is. It is comparable to the gas gauge on your car's dashboard, which tells you how full the gas tank is. But the gas gauge tells you nothing about how effectively the gas is being delivered to and removed by the engine. Likewise, SpO2 tells you nothing about how effectively the oxygen is being delivered to and removed by your tissues. By contrast, Venoxia™ measures oxygen delivery and extraction - how effectively oxygen is removed from the blood and delivered to your muscles and vital organs. Venoxia yields 20+ measures of oxygen balance that cannot be obtained by wearable devices. Effective delivery and extraction of oxygen is fundamentally important for cellular vitality, performance, and healthspan.

Why use venous blood?

Wearables and pulse oximeters estimate oxygen saturation (SpO2) in arterial blood—the oxygen being delivered from your heart and lungs to the rest of the body. This is the oxygen carried in your blood before it reaches your cells and tissues, including muscle.  SpO2 measures oxygen in the red side of the circulation in the diagram below -- only one side of journey.Venoxia™ looks at both sides of the journey. By also analyzing a carefully collected sample of venous blood -- after it has circulated through your tissues -- Venoxia™ provides a different view of your body's oxygen balance. Venous blood is the blue side of the circulation. Venoxia™  combines a venous blood gas panel (blue) with advanced medical-grade pulse oximetry (red) to generate an in-depth profile of oxygen supply, delivery, and extraction.

How does Venoxia differ from VO2max?

VO2max is the maximum rate of whole-body oxygen consumption during intense exercise. It is an important measure of fitness. A true VO2max is measured in a lab using a graded exercise test with a metabolic cart and bike (or treadmill) until exhaustion. Some wearables provide an estimated VO2max, which is not very accurate.By contrast, Venoxia measures tissue oxygen extraction at rest. If your tissue extraction at rest points to sub-optimal oxygen delivery, then your training and performance will likely be sub-optimal. Venoxia helps you detect and address the hidden factors that may be limiting your performance. If your Venoxia test reveals optimal oxygen extraction at rest, then you have a better chance to reach your peak performance. In this scenario, your VO2 max will reflect the impact of your training—uncomplicated by sub-optimal baseline health status.
